Border Collie - Noble (15 Yrs) - Medium - Senior - Male - Dog
Noble is truly a one-of-a-kind dog. He is a an approximately 15 year old border collie mix and weighs about 35 pounds. When he first came home with me, he was literally just bones; the area behind his hips sunk in so terribly. Now, after a good diet and lots of love, he is filling out and even has a little shine to his coat. All of his teeth have either broken off, fallen out, or been worn down to nothing (the vet says this is probably due to years of poor diet and chewing on fleas). He had not even been neutered when he came to the shelter!!! He has the sweetest eyes that just stare up at you with so much love.
He is COMPLETELY housebroken and was that way since I got him-I had to be gone 10 hours one day last week and he never had an accident. He is absolutely fine to be left roaming the house while people are gone. He never messes with anything at all. He walks perfectly on a leash and enjoys roaming around the backyard for a bit. He seems to hate the cold and is always excited to come back inside. He LOVES to chew on rawhide bones, though he has just those few teeth. Noble's nature is extremely gentle and he loves everyone he meets, including children. He will sit down and put his paw up to shake whenever he meets someone new. It is too adorable!! He will also "paw" at you when he wants attention and you are ignoring him. ;-)
He never once tried to get on the couch, though we would have gladly let him. He only barks when the other dogs do and only whines when he is excited to go outside. He doesn't mind my other dogs, which are small, but I think he would be fine as the only dog in the home. He loves having all the attention!!He does seem to do much better with small dogs than large dogs, perhaps a dominance thing. He is always up for a belly rub and seems perfectly content to lay at your feet. He is very easy-going. He currently eats one can of holistic dog food in the morning and one can in the evening, with Science Diet Active Maturity dry food provided all day. He still eats the dry food well even though his teeth are in awful shape. He loves treats and will shake for them. He does okay with just a few steps, but often loses balance in his back end.
When I took him to the vet, he said that Noble did have hip dysplasia and had lost most of the muscle mass in his back end due to lack of nutrition at various points in his life. Also, Noble has cataracts in his left eye (going blind) and just some cloudiness in the other. Though after doing a full examination, the vet determined that for his age, Noble is in good condition as far as his heart and lungs. His only prescription were good food, love, and a daily multivitamin. Noble's love really seems so endless; he looks at you and acts as if you are the only thing that matters in the world. In all espects other than his behaviors around cats, he is perfect, the perfect low-key family dog to cuddle with. He is completely UTD and I would send him with his bed, blanket, bones, vitamins, harness, and any food I had left.
